David discovered that the plaque, issued to the families of all British soldiers killed in WW1, belonged to a Mr George William Cawood. He had served as a private in the Hampshire regiment and was killed on February 4, 1917. David posted an appeal for George’s relatives in his local paper which was seen by genealogists Finders International.
Heir Hunters Step in
The company, who have worked for the BB2C Heir Hunters programme, managed to trace Thelma in Guildford, Surrey, and Michael in Fleet, Hants.
Daniel Curran of Finders International said: “We were delighted to be able to help David trace George Cawood’s heirs so the plaque could be returned to its rightful owners.
We located a niece and a nephew of the deceased – two cousins who hadn’t been in contact since they were children.
We also found six great nieces and nephews”
